Workshop in Consciousness-in-Action
In facing the serious issues of our day, many of us intently work for social and economic empowerment, for racial and environmental justice, or for broad political and institutional change. Meanwhile, many among us focus our change efforts on personal growth, loving relationships and spiritual development as we seek a greater sense of purpose and deeper connection with others. Undoubtedly, and fortunately, we all aspire to a better life and a better world.
Aware that “the personal is political” and “the political is personal,” just how do we go about creating the kind of shift of perspective —and transformation of self, culture and society— that this historical moment seems to demand? What processes can we —must we— actually engage to guide our actions toward our visions, our desired future?
Identity, Power & Integral Change is a two-day workshop in which we will introduce key concepts, principles, and processes of consciousness-in-action, an integral approach to personal change, social justice and cultural transformation. Drawing from years of research, contemplative practice, and work in communities-of-struggle, the workshop presents a process to transform the quality of our lives and the effectiveness of our work toward integral change. In this workshop, participants will:
- Consider a practical framework to integral well-being and development.
- Examine social group identities as core aspects of “self” and “other” within dominant culture.
- Analyze how racism, sexism and other power dynamics are major hindrances and obstacles to everyone’s integral well-being and development.
- Explore the power of reflective response as integral transformative practice.
- Consider how empathy and compassion are necessary, yet insufficient, in our relational development for integral transformative leadership.
Facilitated by Dr. Raúl Quiñones-Rosado, author of Consciousness-in-Action: Toward an Integral Psychology of Liberation & Transformation, this workshop is found to be most useful to helping professionals, community organizers, social justice and spiritual activists, cultural workers, organizational leaders, students, educators and others engaged in personal growth, professional development and social change.
Talks & Presentations
Dr. Quiñones-Rosado and associates are also available for talks and presentations on the principles and concepts of consciousness-in-action, integral liberating transformation, as well as on aspects of Latino identity and leadership, racial identity development, social identity development, antiracism organizing, and liberation psychology.
